Things are understandably quiet here at Walks from the Door, so I was delighted to receive a local commission that I could work on over the Christmas break while complying with the restrictions in place at the time.As a local I’m extremely familiar with this area, so I’ve been able to pick three thoroughly tried and tested routes of varying distances from New Mills Golf Club. The course is superbly situated in the hills above New Mills in Derbyshire, with views over the Goyt Valley and Cheshire Plain to the west and to Kinder Scout to the east.
This is my second golf club commission and I’m very grateful to Phil and the committee for their business in these strange times. Let’s hope that as things start opening up again these walks go down well with the members and encourage visitors to visit the clubhouse after their walk for a drink or a meal when conditions allow. In the meantime the Halfway House is open near the clubhouse at weekends for drinks and snacks.
