New Mills is a town in the Peak District National Park with a rich and fascinating history. It was first settled in the Bronze Age, and has been a centre of industry and commerce for centuries. The town was home to a thriving cotton industry in the 18th and 19th centuries, and its mills were powered by the rivers Goyt and Sett. New Mills is also home to a number of historical buildings, including Torr Vale Mill, which is a Grade II* listed building.

New Mills Local History Society has produced three tours for you to follow and learn about the town’s historical attractions. They are located in the Things to do section and comprise The Torrs trail, the Listed Buildings trail and the Plaques trail.
