Lovely walk taking in the Sett Valley Trail and ending in the torrs Riverside park, including Gibb Hey with great views of New Mills and Kinder Scout on a clear day. We went in February and was very muddy in places so please wear appropriate attire.
The Sett Valley Trail in New Mills offers a scenic journey through the Peak District National Park, showcasing natural beauty and industrial history. Winding along a former railway line, it’s perfect for walkers, cyclists, and nature lovers. You’ll enjoy lush greenery, tranquil streams, and remnants of the area’s industrial past, making for a memorable experience in the countryside.
The area of Gibb Hey offers stunning views of New Mills, showcasing its charm amidst rolling hills and lush greenery. The walk ends in Torrs Riverside Park , the Torrs sandstone gorge is a striking geological formation, known as “the Park under the Town.” This picturesque area includes picnic spots, the community-owned hydroelectric scheme known as Torrs Hydro, elegant bridges, and rich industrial heritage. Notably, the Millennium Walkway, a modern engineering marvel, stands adjacent to a significant Victorian retaining wall, overlooking Torr Vale Mill. Once you’ve completed the walk have a well deserved refreshments at one of the local eateries.
