Sett Valley Trail, Hayfield, Moor Lodge and Goyt Valley Loop – FONMS walk 7

Distance 7.75 Miles – Time Approx. 3.5 hours

This walk is easy along the Sett Valley trail, but then climbs fairly steeple up to Ridge Top, Hayfield then crosses high moorland before descending to the Goyt Valley.

The walk starts with Torrs Riverside park and leads to the Sett Valley Trail is a scenic path from New Mills to Hayfield, tracing the former railway line. It offers stunning views of the Peak District’s rolling hills, woodlands, and streams. Accessible to all, it’s perfect for walking, cycling, and enjoying nature. Whether in spring or autumn, the trail promises a memorable outdoor adventure amidst tranquil countryside.

From the vicinity of Moor Lodge Farm in New Mills, the view is simply stunning. Green hills roll into the distance, complemented by the charming farmstead nestled among lush fields. 

Gowhole Farm near New Mills is a charming retreat with marauding hens adding to its rural allure. Nearby Goytside Farm offers the chance to spot llamas, adding an unexpected delight to your countryside walk. Ending back into Torrs Riverside park, where you can see Torrs Hydro, Millennium Walkway and Torr vale mill, and have a well deserved refreshments at one of the local eateries.
