WALK 4: A secular walk round the CHURCHES OF NEW MILLS (past and present)

Distance 3.5 miles – Time – approx. 1-1.5 hrs

Explore the historic streets of New Mills with this concise walking guide. Begin at the former site of Torr Top Hall, where meetings of the Society of Friends were held since 1685. Visit the Church of the Annunciation, built in 1838, and admire its impressive spire.

As you wander through the town, discover remnants of former churches and community buildings, each with its own unique history. Highlights include Providence United Reform Church, built-in 1823, and St George’s C of E Parish Church, constructed in 1831.

Pass by Kingdom Hall and stroll along High Street to High Street Chapel, dating back to 1766. Explore Meal Street to uncover the history of Meal Street Primitive Methodist Chapel, built-in 1827.

Conclude your walk at Torr Top Street, passing by Torr Top Mission, and soak in the rich heritage of New Mills. Your then in the town centre where you can visit one of our many eateries for refreshments.
