New Mills massage therapists learn skills from The Christie to support people with cancer
Two beauty therapists from New Mills are now able to provide expert massages to local people with cancer and other acute health conditions, after completing a unique training course at The Christie.
Caroline Murphy and Amy-Leigh Orme attended a two-day training event at the Manchester hospital, which was last week named as the top specialist hospital in the country and one of the best three overall.
The Adapting Massage for Hospice and Cancer Care course took place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5thMarch, designed for massage therapists to expand their repertoire and approaches to massage and bodywork for people with cancer and other complex conditions.
Caroline, who owns The Hub on Albion Road, said: “The training looked at safe and creative ways of adapting massage for people who have serious conditions. We worked with and without oil, on mats, chairs, couches and even hospital beds.
“I am so proud that Amy and I have been lucky enough to train at The Christie. It has to be my favourite and number one course that I have attended in all of my massage training. We’re now able to offer a special and unique experience to the High Peak area and we really hope it makes a difference to local people, including helping them to feel relaxed and to cope with issues such as stress, headaches and pain during their ongoing medical treatments.”
Amy, Caroline’s niece, added: “I’d like to thank the course tutors so much for an enlightening and inspirational experience at The Christie! I’m not only going to use these tools and techniques in work to help as many people as possible, but also in my day-to-day life.”
