This time of year is dodgy for our feathered friends.
All the berries and seeds they’ve been managing on over the last few months have gone, insects can’t be found and the ground is often frozen. During just one cold night they lose a massive amount of body weight, and you wonder how any survive the winter at all.
So for an extended period of extremely cold, snowy and frosty weather like we’re into now it can be curtains for many of them.
So, if you get the chance, put extra supplies out for them please. As you’ll probably know a great selection is available from New Mills Indoor market and Ryan’s (and probably other places).
And if you’re at home, give the snow a sweep off from time to time.
If they could, they’d thank you
