Walkers are Welcome

Walker are Welcome is a UK-wide, community-led network of accredited towns whose purpose is to develop and promote walking in areas with something different to offer. The purpose is to assist communities with their economic, physical, health and mental well-being through walking.

New Mills has been a member of this network since 2013. We have focused our activities on leading walks, printing walks leaflets, and footpath surveying and maintenance.

We usually organise a walks programme throughout the year, aimed at a variety of interests to suit all walking preferences.

We have a team of footpath surveyors who check the condition of local footpaths. We undertake footpath maintenance where possible, and report serious problems to the Rights of Way Team at Derbyshire County Council.

Here are illustrations of the work our maintenance team have recently completed.

You can find more information and printable versions of our leaflets on our website
