The Beehive Bank Holiday Beer Festival

Starting Friday 22 May all the way through to Monday 25 May the Beehive Beer Festival has beers and ciders from all corners of the land – Scotland, Brighton, Cornwall as well as much loved local favourites from much closer to home.

As we type up the list of 40 final preparations are under way with Stella (what better name for a tea total landlady) and her team ready for a very busy four days.


Glaslyn Ale Purple Moose North Wales 4.2 Golden A golden coloured fruity best bitter with a well balanced hoppy finish.
Glaslyn Ale takes its name from the Afon Glaslyn, the river which flows from ‘Yr Wyddfa’ (Snowdon) to Porthmadog.
Dark Side of the Moose Purple Moose North Wales 4.6 Dark A delicious dark ale with a deep malt flavour from roasted barley and a fruity bitterness from Bramling Cross hops.
Dark Side of the Moose is now very popular and ideally suited to drinkers who have a taste for darker beers.
Pint Marble Beers Ltd Manchester 3.9 Light Hazy golden yellow colour. Biscuit and citrus fruit aroma. Citrus fruit flavour and bitter aftertaste.
Revelation Dark Star Brewing Brighton 5.7 Light A blend of Warrior, Cascade, Columbus, Crystal and Chinook by the sack full – then dry hopped during conditioning using our ‘Hoptimizer’ (Industrial sized hookah)
Hophead Dark Star Brewing Brighton 3.8 Golden An extremely clean-drinking pale golden ale with a strong floral aroma and elderflower notes from the Cascade hops. This beer is full-bodied and full-flavoured yet gentle enough to make it a favourite session beer.
Ruby Duck Fuzzy Duck Brewery Lancashire 5.3 Ruby Dark ruby coloured beer with a rich full body and complex fruit flavours.
Mallard Fuzzy Duck Brewery Lancashire 3.7 Dark Dark session beer with plenty of flavour coming through from the crystal and chocolate malts.
Raven Ale The Orkney Brewery Scotland 3.8 Golden A mid golden colour with a light creamy head. This mid-golden ale is a complex mixture of toasted and biscuit like malt aromas with spicy resinous hop notes. This complexity continues with the biscuit malt and spicy citrus fruit flavours dominating, giving way to a crisp, dry hop bitterness
Dark Island The Orkney Brewery Scotland 4.6 Dark Dark Island is an iconic beer: a standard-bearer for traditional Scottish ales. In cask, this beer has twice won CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Scotland.
On the nose, this dark beer offers bitter chocolate, figs, toffee and hints of fruit.
On the palate, this resolves into beautiful, silky-smooth, coffee-and-chocolate flavours, followed by figs, dates and dried fruits, with a very appealing, lingering aftertaste of fruits and hop bitterness.
Red Macgregor The Orkney Brewery Scotland 4.0 Ruby Red Macgregor is a unique beer: delicate and sophisticated yet the robust cask conditioned version of this beer was the first Scottish beer to win the BIIA World Cask Beer Gold Medal.
On the nose, this ruby-red beer is delicate, floral and fruity, with notes of violets, cherries, toffee and caramel.
On the palate, the fruits combine with a juicy malt character and hints of toasted malt, with a biscuit malt and spicy hop finish.
Trade Winds Cairgorms Brewery Scotland 4.3 Golden Light golden in colour, with a high proportion of wheat giving the beer a clean fresh taste. The mash blends together with the perle hops and elderflower providing a bouquet of fruit and citrus flavours.
Stag Cairgorms Brewery Scotland 4.1 Dark A mahogany coloured ale with medium to light body. Challenger and Fuggles hops are added plentifully giving initial bitterness that is then balanced by a caramel finish from the roast malts
Bitter and Twisted Harviestoun Scotland 3.8 Golden Bitter & Twisted is a superbly-balanced, refreshingly-lively beer. It has a malty-sweet aroma with a floral, fruity hoppiness and a zingy, zesty flavour. Complex, rounded, sweet and dry; this is the connoisseurs’ session beer par excellence!
Thornbridge Seaforth Derbyshire 5.9 Light A British hopped IPA. Copper colour with a nose of fruits and berries, gentle maltiness in the mouth and a wonderful citrus, lemon pith bitterness.

Thornbridge Jairpur Derbyshire 5.9 Light A citrus dominated India pale ale, its immediate impression is soft and smooth yet builds to a crescendo of hoppiness accentuated by honey. An enduring, bitter finish with more citrus and grapefruit.
Blew Monkey Brewery Sanctuary Nottingham 4.1 Amber A traditional light copper coloured ale, spiced up with a combination of German and American hops giving a slight citrus tone.

Exmoor Brewery Beast Exmoor 6.6 Dark Brewed with a mix of chocolate and crystal malts, it is a dark mahogany brown with lush rich aromas of toffee and treacle. Takes it name from the wild cats of exmoor moor

Clearwater Real Smiler Devon 3.7 Golden One for the landlady – Golden Crisp & Hoppy. Essentially a summer beer due to its refreshing nature, this has now become one of the best all year session beers around.
Mobberley Fine Ales Whirly Bird Cheshire 4.0 Amber A sweet and full bodied pale amber ale. It has well balanced flavours, sweeter to the taste with a mellow citrus fruitiness to finish.
Sharps Brewery Atlantic Cornwall 4.2 Light Atlantic is a modern pale ale that captures the essence of Sharp’s home on the rugged north coast of Cornwall. It is brewed with Sharp’s trademark precision to give complexity, subtlety and a cleanness of palate while showcasing the fresh citrus flavours of New World hops. All in, a beautifully refreshing pale ale. Deep golden in Colour, Atlantic has a vibrant fruity aroma redolent of lime zest to mango.
The flavour is harmonious balance of barley sugar and grapefruit with a refreshingly crisp citrus linger.
Sharps Brewery Doom Bar Cornwall 4.0 Amber Orange amber ale. Notes of dried fruit, lightly roasted malt and a subtle yet assertive bitterness. The bitterness remains into the finish with dry fruity notes.
St Austell Brewery Tribute Cornwall 4.2 Golden Fruity citrusy hoppy aroma with a light semi sweet fruity taste with a long finish with dryness and some bitterness coming through.
Off Beat Brewery Disfunctional Functional IPA Crewe 4.8 Light A big hoppy, fruity IPA with not too crazy an ABV.  A ‘special’ in late 2014 which became so popular it crossed over to the ‘core’ beers.
Off Beat Brewery Wild Blackberry Mild Crewe 3.8 Amber A not so traditional mild fermented on blackberries and with blackberries in the cask. Fruit character along with some toffee and toasted notes.
Off Beat Brewery Oddity 1 – Honey Cream Ale Crewe 4.4 Light A  hybrid ale fermented on an ale yeast and conditioned on a lager yeast.  Dry, crisp and refreshing with a hint of tangerine sweetness from the local Haughton Honey.
Merlin Brewing Dragonslayer Sandbach 5.6 Dark Malty aroma with notes of caramel. The flavour is both malty, sweet and hoppy, with a dry and sharp bitter finish.
