Artists can apply for one or more of the opportunities below.

Submission is FREE. However, there is a £20 charge* made to successful artists for inclusion in the Art Trail promotional material.

*other pricing configurations may apply, depending on the venue, number of artists etc.

Big Weekend
The Art Trail includes a “Big Weekend”, timed to coincide with the hugely popular Lantern Procession finale, which attracts an audience of more than 14,000 to the town. The Big Weekend sees artists and venues across New Mills open their doors to host pop-up exhibitions, open studios, workshops and demonstrations, and arts and crafts markets. Details of all the venues are included in the Art Trail. If you would like to open your studio/home/venue to take part in the Big Weekend.

Pop Up Venues
Pop Up venues can be open throughout the two-week period and/or during the Big Weekend. If you would like to submit a proposal or work to be curated in the Pop Up Venues please consult the list below for full details including opening times and dates, costs, whether the space is manned or unmanned. Then complete the application, entering your choice(s) of venue on the online application.

*Pop Up Venues can be spaces for displays or exhibitions manned or unmanned. They can also be selling spaces in existing venues. Please see the list below for opening times and dates, additional costs.

*Spring Bank Arts Centre Pop-up Venue – this is a selling opportunity where you will be given a space in the venue to set up a display. This space is curated by New Mills Festival. The display must be manned by the artist.

*New Mills Heritage Centre Pop-up Venue – this is a exhibition opportunity for the duration of the Art Trail. You will be given a space in the venue to set up a display. This space is curated by New Mills Festival. Group applications for this venue are welcomed.

The Art Trail is not themed, however the theme for the New Mills Festival this year is “Around the World”. Proposals which respond to this topic will be welcomed.

Larger Display Spaces
Alongside applications from artists for the smaller shop windows the organisers are particularly interested in hearing from artists who would like to tackle one of the bigger display spaces, either for a larger installation or for a display from a group. Please email art@newmillsfestival.co.uk to discuss your ideas. There is a small materials budget available for these spaces.
