Arriva has arrived and more trains are promised
Arriva has won the Contract to deliver the area’s train services and so the Arriva Northern Director for Communities and Sustainability, Dr Booth, gave a verbal presentation at the recent High Peak and Hope Valley Rail Partnership’s meeting explaining the services and facilities that they had promoted in their planning to enable their success.
Better availability of ticket machines at local stations (new machines already installed at Marple), and they will extend purchasing tickets by phone, computer, or in shops.
By December 2017 – A half hourly service will run for most of the day on the Newtown line to Manchester – and a faster service is promised – though how it will be achieved is not explained.
17 trains a day, in each direction, between Sheffield and Manchester are promised though not all will stop in the Hope Valley.
The promise that the trains will be new or very good refurbished trains was made. (and will not be forgotten if Arriva do not follow through with them!)
At the meeting the members were asked for a list of improvements that they would like to see on their local stations. As you may imagine the Friends of New Mills Stations and Visit New Mills have produced quite a long list!!
